Be inspired by the North Coast 500

NC500 better known as the North Coast 500 or Scotland’s equivalent to ‘Route 66’.
The route was established by the North Highlands Initiative, in order to bring together the Scottish Highlands. It also aims to showcase local Scottish food and drink, accommodation and activities. Most important thing you need to know about the NC500 is that it is a jaw-droppingly beautiful route. The Scottish Highlands are renowned to have the most picturesque scenery in Europe. The route starts and ends at Inverness Castle, a total round trip of 516 miles. Running to and from Inverness, touring round the capital, up the west coast and back along the rugged north coast. You will undoubtedly come across breath taking deserted beaches, a magnitude of wildlife, outstandingly good fresh seafood, tranquil lochs and last but not least you will meet the most friendly people on earth, the Scots. Not to mention your favourite distilleries and breweries along the way too.

NC500 is named one of the top coastal road trips in the world and that was only after being officially launched after two months.
The route mainly attracts car and motorbike enthusiasts, as well as walkers and cyclists.
The route is deemed an unforgettable drive and one most definitely not to be missed, it runs through a number of historical counties in Northern Scotland including Inverness-shire, the Black Isle, Western Ross, Easter Ross, Sutherland and finally Caithness.

The best time to drive the NC500 for the majority of people is between May-October, as most attractions and restaurants will open at this time of year, also there is better chance of the weather being warmer.

If on the other hand you are looking to take advantage of tis route on the more quieter time of the year then April, early May, late September or October would be your ideal time, of course avoiding festivals, events etc. The route takes on average 5-7 days to complete.
